    [2006, DKA] Can I Celebrate?
This blog was started on this day in 2006. This was DKA no doubt. So now I was in the hospital for DKA after I had a heart attack I didn't know about! Then after I was no longer DKA they transported me to another hospital to have an angiogram. That was 11 years ago! For many of those years I wrote quite often but not recently. So can I celebrate an 11 year old blog when the past few have been sparse? The thing is I have a lot to share since a lot has happened.

[2006, DKA] Low-Income Kids on Pumps Face Higher Risk of Complications
They analyzed data from the Ontario Pediatric Diabetes Network based on a 2012 survey of patient data for the time period between 2006 and 2013; they then divided children studied into five categories based on socioeconomic status. During that time, the rate of DKA was 5.28 A child’s socioeconomic status may be able to predict his or her health outcomes on insulin pump therapy, even in a country with universal health care coverage.

In 2006, at the age of 40, I was feeling a little sick and just couldn't shake it. My blood sugar was 883, I was in DKA, and my kidneys had shut down. PS - This isn't how you're supposed to hold a gun. It was my first time. You never forget your first! 22 caliber = Baby Steps. I've graduated to a 9mm now. I'm learning how to shoot a gun. And.YES.I realize we have small children in the house. There. I said it. Mr. Rose has been asking me for YEARS to go target shooting with him.

Another diabetes dad sent an email asking about the JDRF New York Times Ad. Specifically if anyone knew the source of the 1:20 number it cites. I replied that I had traded emails with Aaron Kowalski and Jeffery Brewer at JDRF about the ad.

Thursday, February 04, 2010 Casey Johnson Died of DKA; Could Diabulemia Be To Blame? Today, the Los Angeles coroners office revealed that Casey Johnsons, heiress to the Johnson & Johnson fortune (who died on January 4, 2010) "natural death" was a result of diabetic ketoacidosis, also known as DKA. That being said, DKA is a relatively long-term result rather than a one-time mistake in insulin-dose calculation, resulting in a serious low (hypo).

    [2006, DKA] Tueday Tirade
The other day, my pal Scott Johnson wrote about his unfortunate recent DKA experience and I commented that there was no room for guilt (or the related self-blame) in his conversation, and I really meant it. I admit to nothing!! The simple reality is that the patient cannot always be blamed for this stuff, and attempts to do so really work against effective self-care.

I wasn’t using a pump, I was checking my BG’s pretty regularly at work, but I tried to be discreet about it, my eating habits were poor, so I had some pretty wild BG swings, easily hovering in mild DKA when I got to work, to trying to hide a low from everyone by the time lunch rolled around on any given day. And it wasnt until I was hospitalized with my first case of DKA (in 2003) that I told some of my closest friends and co-workers. Pages Home Want to be featured?

[2006, DKA] What To Do When Your CGMS Is Denied
Namely, if they keep patients well enough, they will not encounter costly issues such as DKA or require emergency room treatments which prove more costly because of out-of-control blood glucose levels. Realize that the most immediate danger of HYPER glycemia in patients with type 1 diabetes is DKA, but also realize that DKA can also be prevented with cheaper technologies like regular testing supplies and insulin, so the motivation for coverage of a CGMS really isn't really there.

I don’t know what it feels like to prick your finger upwards of 10 times a day. I don't know what it's like to give yourself an injection just to have a little snack. I just don’t know. I wish I did. Her daughter had been diabetic since she was 3 and died of DKA. I just saw Dateline NBC. The story is about a mother who was tried for murder of her 11 year old child with Type I diabetes.
