MARCH 30, 2009 [Blog, Coma] What to do about Ketones
Early on, I was told that I needed to test for ketones when my blood sugar ran high. In the first few years, I’d check my ketones level and never found a trace of any present. After my move, I didn’t bother to replace the strips because I never found any trace of ketones.

Just because Justice is running insane numbers some very low some very high,some with ketones, some dropping without a bolus, doesnt mean I am not doing everything I can or should. Everyday we must try to balance blood sugars from being too low which could cause a siezure, coma or death right now, with sugars being too high and causing complications later in life such as organ damage,neuropathy, blindness, and again early death.

Insulin can cause seizures, coma, and even death. Ketones are flushed. Parenting #dblog emotions type 1 diabetes blog type 1 diabetesI am struggling. Too much death for me over the past week between Carl and the lives lost to diabetes. Staying true to myself, I am writing it out.

Ah, sorry about the "blog closure" yesterday. This blog is not closed. High sugars are generally not and emergency (unless accompanied by ketones, abdominal pain, vomiting or if they persist for a prolonged period of a few hours). Of course you are all "invited".

Both times, he ended up with low blood sugar and large ketones

are scary and dangerous! Large ketones
can lead to DKA , which can then lead to a coma
, brain swelling and even death. Vomiting, low blood sugar and large ketones
create a horrendous predicament. Both times, this is how we conquered the ketones
