JULY 16, 2008 [Desserts, DKA] Wednesday Morning Comin' Down
1.Well I woke Wednesday morning, with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt And the Diet Coke I'd had for breakfast, wasn't bad, so I had two more for dessert Then I stumbled to the nightstand, grabbed my meter and blew off all the dirt Checked right in at 303.and knew I was was more then ready to greet the day!

OCTOBER 14, 2007 [Desserts, DKA] October Showers-Part 1
And I'm about to go to a dessert shower-for heaven's sake. Ignore the situation, enjoy the shower, and go into DKA 4 hours later. Back to dessert shower, fiance meets me, we go in and enjoy the party.(despite more then anything else) It usually signifies ketones & impending DKA. I've duly arrived at the scene of the impending party, checked my blood sugar(96) and had lunch at a nearbye Taco Bell.

JUNE 14, 2011 [Desserts, DKA] The value of having a personal support network
My entire family helps me - My wife reads the back label of all purchases at the grocery, my grown children drink “preppy micro-brew beer” but always have light beer in the house for me, during family celebrations my 87 year old mother always makes sure there is fruit for dessert. . He held my hand in the emergency room (I was in DKA), told me that he would help with all of the new eating habits, and has been there ever since.

I was close to DKA and coma when I hit the ER. Nine months later I was in severe DKA and was declared a Type 1. Yet, I never went into DKA all those years and my sugars were usually around 200 which I know because once meters came out that’s where they were.

I was terrified that hed end up in DKA but it turns out he didnt do so badly. I provided a dessert for the teachers at Rileys school to show appreciation for all they do. My son has diabetes " Not everything that counts can be counted. Not everything that can be counted counts."
