So we're keeping things hush hush but I will say.the dessert Kay is doing is AWESOME and it's delishhhhhhhh! She scrunched her nose and I could tell she was on a sugar overload.

Our nephew had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes two years earlier, but since we weren’t involved in his daily care, we didn’t have much firsthand knowledge other than seeing him check his blood sugar or get an injection at family get togethers. As a result, you can expect people to think that your child has the same condition as their old Aunt Agnes who has “sugar diabetes.” The child should not have desserts and should eat only sugar-free foods.

10 minutes later, time for blood sugar test(and supper). Food person asks me if I'd like some dessert. I cast a wary glance in the direction of the medical professionals and reply that fruit is a perfectly fine dessert. "Sorry I'm late," I mumble, as the RC's face lights up and she exclaims,"There she is!"(telephone telephone in hand) It's 6:15, and I'm pushing the limits of having to reschedule the entire thing. Well, you are coming from far away-it's ok." Traffic was bad."

Being able to test my blood sugars whenever and wherever I want has not only given me better control of my diabetes – It’s given me a better life with diabetes.”. When I was diagnosed I never had to test my urine to see what my blood sugar was and I didn’t have to boil syringes on the stove before using them. I can tell at a glance if I’m good for some dessert or if I should delay it until my dinner carbs and bolus have run their course.

My kids are smoothie junkies and would have one for breakfast and again for dessert if I would indulge them. Also, if you prefer your smoothies a little sweeter, I recommend using regular or all natural sugar as opposed to an artificial sweetener or sugar alternative. These sugar substitutes have been known to make you crave more sugar and they can also build up insulin resistance over time.

I’ve employed the combo bolus in the past only to have a screaming high blood sugar tell me I should have gone the straight up route. Within an hour of dessert and it’s subsequent bolus, it was time for tired little girls to go to bed. A blood sugar check was performed as per the usual bedtime routine. I breathed a sigh of relief as I resumed her basal delivery, knowing full well that in another hour her blood sugar would almost certainly be in the mid to high teens.

Riley’s sugars have been out of control for the past month or so. I say high, but he woke up with a blood sugar of 66 this morning. That, after going to bed with a sugar of 351. That’s what I usually blame for the wacky sugars. He’s started checking his sugar more frequently claiming he feels low (he rarely is). I think he’s checking because he hopes his sugar is low enough to eat. His sugars are sucky anyway, he might as well eat.
