[Injection] Insulin Injection-Free for a Decade

[Injection] Ask Joslin: Lumps Near Injection Sites
I have weird lumps near my injection sites. Lipohypertrophy is most common in people who receive frequent, multiple daily injections of insulin or use an insulin pump. The hard bumps, usually found at injection sites, are an accumulation of fat and may also contain some scar tissue. Lipohypertrophy occurs when a patient uses the same injection site too often. If you are using your abdomen to inject, be sure to inject about an inch or two away from your last site. MORE >>

[Injection] A Future of Fewer Injections?

A recent survey of people with diabetes by the American Association of Diabetes Educators reveals that discomfort caused by injections can directly affect how closely a patient follows insulin therapy. According to Medtronic, you can, in theory, reduce the number of injections needed for fast-acting insulin in a month from 120 to 10 with the device. MORE >>

[Injection] 7 Tips to Stop Injection Site Bruising
Q: Is it common to get bruises at the site of injection? A: There are many reasons that an injection site might develop a bruise. Try some of these techniques to decrease the chances of bruising: Ice the injection site for about 30 to 60 seconds prior to giving the injection. The cold helps to shrink away the capillary blood vessels which may get punctured during a shot. Make sure you are injecting at a 90 degree angle to your skin, and not on a slant. MORE >>
